Born on 23^rd September, 1881. Educated at St. Xavier’s College, Bombay.

            Was Member, Indian legislative Assembly 1929-1943 ; Constituent assembly, 1948-1949 ;  First Round Table Conference, 1929; went to Geneva in 1937, as employer’s delegate to the International Labour  Conference ; Member for Supply, Viceroy’s Executive Council, 1941-43 ; appointed Governor of Bombay in September, 1947 ; Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1949 to 1952. Was Chairman of the Central Bank of India  Limited till March, 1968 ; Life President of the Indo-American Society Limited and of the Indian Council of World Affairs, Bombay Branch ; Patron-in Chief,C.C.I. Limited.
