Railwaymens Federation ; was twice elected President of the All-India trade Union
Congress ; went to Geneva in 1927 as the Indian Workers delegate to the International
Labour Conference ; participated in the Second Round Table Conference held in London,
1931, as Workers Representative ; Minister for Labour, Industries, and Co-operatives in theMadras Ministry, 1937 39
; appointed as Indian High Commissioner to Ceylon ; elected to the Lok Sabha in 1952 and
was Union minister for Labour, May, 1952 to September, 1954 ; President Indian Congress of
Social Work, 1958 ; was Governor, Uttar Pradesh, 1957-60 ; Kerala, 1961-65 ; Mysore,
1965-67 ; Vice-President of India, from 6th May, 1967 to 24th
August, 1969 ; Founder President, Indian Society of Labour Economics.
